Interactive Edge: Highlights from HK Techathon+ 10A Pre-Finale Mixer and Pitching Skills Training

Sonia and I made our way to the HK Techathon+ 10A Pre-Finale Mixer and Pitching Skills Training today, and it stood out as one of the most engaging sessions I’ve experienced. Facilitators built in ample moments for participants to connect and converse, lowering barriers to spark genuine discussions. For anyone easing into professional circles, this setup proves invaluable—had I encountered similar formats sooner, my own entry into these arenas might have smoothed out faster.

Coach Desmond’s segment on presentation techniques particularly resonated. While I’m comfortable in casual chats, structured talks aren’t my strength. As a seasoned speaker and coach, he distilled essential approaches to delivering pitches, framing them less as gimmicks and more as a core outlook. His structured advice suits direct communicators like me, providing frameworks to channel candor into persuasive narratives without losing authenticity.

Hearing from accomplished business builders added another layer. One presenter’s sleek slides caught my attention—elegant visuals paired with focused, no-frills delivery that drove points home efficiently. It’s a model we’ll draw from to enhance SilverGuard AI’s decks, ensuring our elderly care tech propositions land with clarity and impact.

Appreciation to everyone involved; the day delivered substantial value.

P.S. Scooped up an adorable HKSTP figurine as a keepsake—it’s already bringing extra cheer to our holiday decor.

Bridging Borders: Insights from the Dongguan-Hong Kong Innovation Exchange

Attended a compelling gathering today, the “Dongguan & Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Acceleration Exchange Conference,” co-hosted by Hong Kong Science Park and Dongguan counterparts. This event kicked off formal ties in tech collaboration between the regions, spotlighting practical steps amid ongoing talks about Greater Bay Area integration.

As founder of a Hong Kong-based startup, I’ve heard plenty about the Bay’s economic potential, yet my grasp of its dynamics remained surface-level until now. Grateful for the invitation to witness the launch ceremony, followed by an evening reception that fostered real dialogue. There, I connected with Science Park mentors and Dongguan tech center staff, delving into our respective operations while swapping lighter tales of local customs.

Surprisingly, several Dongguan participants had studied in Hong Kong and spoke Cantonese with ease, highlighting shared roots that ease cross-border ventures. The day stretched from midday to past 10 p.m., packed with valuable takeaways on advancing regional tech ecosystems.

Events like this underscore opportunities for startups eyeing expansion—eager to explore more synergies ahead.
