Grateful Reflections Attending CUHKs 從眾善相連到善恩善傳 Sharing Session

Fortunate to receive an invitation from CUHK mentors for todays 從眾善相連到善恩善傳 forum a thoughtful discussion on building and passing forward positive legacies in professional communities. Attended todays event and gained deeper understanding of the upcoming close ties between the CUHK Alumni Charity Fund and the Chinese University Hospital as a CUHK alumnus I take great pride in this development. Arrived somewhat drained after several intense workdays but the kindness of attendees soon lifted my spirits. Seasoned participants made introductions to accomplished peers whose input prompted valuable thoughts on enhancing various aspects of technology enterprises revealing opportunities I had overlooked.

The afternoon brought a special chance to converse up close with my admired emcee Amanda Fok. Followed her updates online and observed her host events several times so engaging directly felt rewarding. Offstage she proves thoughtful and considerate creating an immediate sense of comfort. Equally privileged to meet my esteemed mentors spouse for the first time her progressive outlook and close tracking of technology developments left me impressed.

Assessed my own contributions as average at best with comments occasionally slipping out unfiltered. This serves as motivation to develop greater composure aiming for the balanced presence that marks effective leaders in business.

Sessions like this highlight the strength of guidance within Hong Kongs innovation circles inspiring continued advancement.

  • Interactive Edge: Highlights from HK Techathon+ 10A Pre-Finale Mixer and Pitching Skills Training

Interactive Edge: Highlights from HK Techathon+ 10A Pre-Finale Mixer and Pitching Skills Training

Sonia and I made our way to the HK Techathon+ 10A Pre-Finale Mixer and Pitching Skills Training today, and it stood out as one of the most engaging sessions I’ve experienced. Facilitators built in ample moments for participants to connect and converse, lowering barriers to spark genuine discussions. For anyone easing into professional circles, this setup proves invaluable—had I encountered similar formats sooner, my own entry into these arenas might have smoothed out faster.

Coach Desmond’s segment on presentation techniques particularly resonated. While I’m comfortable in casual chats, structured talks aren’t my strength. As a seasoned speaker and coach, he distilled essential approaches to delivering pitches, framing them less as gimmicks and more as a core outlook. His structured advice suits direct communicators like me, providing frameworks to channel candor into persuasive narratives without losing authenticity.

Hearing from accomplished business builders added another layer. One presenter’s sleek slides caught my attention—elegant visuals paired with focused, no-frills delivery that drove points home efficiently. It’s a model we’ll draw from to enhance SilverGuard AI’s decks, ensuring our elderly care tech propositions land with clarity and impact.

Appreciation to everyone involved; the day delivered substantial value.

P.S. Scooped up an adorable HKSTP figurine as a keepsake—it’s already bringing extra cheer to our holiday decor.

Insights from CUHK’s Corporate Innovation Index 3.0 Launch: Fresh Perspectives on Business Growth

Thrilled to have joined the opening seminar for the Corporate Innovation Index 3.0 (CII 3.0) today, organized by The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Hats off to CUHK for marking yet another achievement in bridging academia and industry through this initiative, which benchmarks corporate creativity and drives practical advancements.

A real highlight was crossing paths with Daniel, a CUHK alumnus who took genuine interest in SilverGuard AI’s operations. His rundown on some of Hong Kong’s premier elderly care facilities opened my eyes to untapped possibilities in aging tech. Even though our focus lies in preventive solutions, his introductions sparked ideas for potential synergies. Fingers crossed for chances to dive deeper with his guidance soon.

The session also featured a compelling talk by Professor Dominic from the business school. Having missed his lectures during my own studies outside that faculty, this marked my first exposure—and it didn’t disappoint. His delivery packed authenticity and sharp observations, resonating deeply with my own views on strategy. What stood out was his knack for engaging the crowd while breaking down complex concepts clearly; I walked away with actionable takeaways on fostering resilience in ventures.

Days like this recharge the drive, blending learning with connections that could shape future collaborations in Hong Kong’s dynamic ecosystem.

  • Reflections from HKSTP and AWS’s 2026 Technical Hands-on Workshop: Networking, AI Insights, and Business Evolution

Reflections from HKSTP and AWS’s 2026 Technical Hands-on Workshop: Networking, AI Insights, and Business Evolution

Attended the 2026 Technical Hands-on Workshop and Networking Mixer co-hosted by HKSTP Techathon+ and AWS recently—a timely dive into emerging tools shaping the tech landscape. A standout moment came when I reconnected with a CUHK senior, whose candid feedback on SilverGuard AI sparked fresh angles for refinement. His perspective, drawn from real-world experience, reminded me how vital these exchanges are for steering ventures forward. Grateful for such serendipitous encounters that sharpen focus amid rapid innovation.

The session centered on hands-on exploration of AWS’s new AI-powered coding IDE, Kiro—designed to enable agentic, spec-driven development with autonomous agents that handle tasks like generating tests, optimizing code, and updating documentation. As someone deeply invested in technology, I found the demo engaging, highlighting how such platforms accelerate prototyping while adapting to user needs. From an entrepreneurial standpoint, it was intriguing to dissect Kiro’s positioning in a crowded market flooded with AI assistants. What sets it apart—its unique selling proposition—lies in its cloud-agnostic approach and event-driven automation hooks, allowing seamless workflows across files without tight vendor lock-in. This prompted self-examination: for SilverGuard AI, our edge rests on privacy-first AI for elderly fall prevention, blending edge computing with blockchain to deliver secure, actionable insights in care settings.

Witnessing fresh entrants like this reinforces a core belief—rivalry fuels advancement. With AI tools proliferating, expect refined features that boost efficiency across industries. Yet, as business leaders, complacency isn’t an option. Staying agile means routinely assessing client pain points, tracking trends, and pivoting strategies to align with evolving demands. This proactive stance defines resilient entrepreneurship, ensuring ventures like ours not only survive but lead in health tech niches.

Events like these energize the journey, blending inspiration with practical takeaways. Eager for more opportunities to collaborate and innovate in Hong Kong’s vibrant ecosystem.

  • Building Bridges: My Reluctant Dive into LinkedIn and the Power of Old Ties

Building Bridges: My Reluctant Dive into LinkedIn and the Power of Old Ties

Gratitude hits differently when old acquaintances step up without hesitation. That’s how I feel about the handful of friends who jumped in to bolster my freshly minted LinkedIn profile. Until recently, my line of work never called for one—tech roles often prioritize code over connections. But as I pivot toward broader business landscapes with SilverGuard AI, I’ve noticed how prevalent these profiles are among peers. It makes sense: a quick scan after meetings eases follow-ups with potential collaborators.

Today marked the start. With zero links initially, I felt exposed, especially realizing over 80% of my contacts skip LinkedIn altogether—their industries simply don’t demand it. Yet, a core group from past circles added me swiftly, turning an empty page into a budding network. Their support reminds me how enduring relationships can accelerate progress in unexpected ways.

Looking ahead, this tool could prove handy at upcoming forums or mixers, offering a seamless way to stay linked without swapping endless cards. That said, I’m no social media enthusiast these days—activity will likely stay minimal. My energy goes toward tangible outcomes, like advancing our senior care innovations, rather than endless scrolling.

Still, if it opens doors to meaningful alliances, count me in selectively.

Networking Gains: Fruitful Connections at HKSEC’s Startup Mixer

This afternoon, I represented SilverGuard AI at a valuable mixer hosted by HKSEC, designed to link emerging entrepreneurs with seasoned veterans. These sessions provide a platform for fresh faces in business to exchange ideas and gain wisdom from those who’ve navigated similar paths.

A highlight was reconnecting with Frank, a respected senior I first encountered through activities at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He’s straightforward and grounded, offering direct, actionable insights into our operations. His sharp perspective, honed by years in the field, has us rethinking elements of our strategy to enhance practicality and impact.

Equally rewarding was bumping into Phoebe, someone I knew from a prior IT firm. Though our roles never overlapped, the shared background sparked immediate rapport. Her diligent and supportive nature shone through as she shared thoughtful tips on elevating our visibility in the health tech space.

All in, the event proved highly productive. Moving forward, I’ll prioritize more of these interactions to expand my outlook and sharpen my skills as a business leader.

Bridging Borders: Insights from the Dongguan-Hong Kong Innovation Exchange

Attended a compelling gathering today, the “Dongguan & Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Acceleration Exchange Conference,” co-hosted by Hong Kong Science Park and Dongguan counterparts. This event kicked off formal ties in tech collaboration between the regions, spotlighting practical steps amid ongoing talks about Greater Bay Area integration.

As founder of a Hong Kong-based startup, I’ve heard plenty about the Bay’s economic potential, yet my grasp of its dynamics remained surface-level until now. Grateful for the invitation to witness the launch ceremony, followed by an evening reception that fostered real dialogue. There, I connected with Science Park mentors and Dongguan tech center staff, delving into our respective operations while swapping lighter tales of local customs.

Surprisingly, several Dongguan participants had studied in Hong Kong and spoke Cantonese with ease, highlighting shared roots that ease cross-border ventures. The day stretched from midday to past 10 p.m., packed with valuable takeaways on advancing regional tech ecosystems.

Events like this underscore opportunities for startups eyeing expansion—eager to explore more synergies ahead.

  • A Milestone for SilverGuard AI: Securing a Global Banking Partnership

A Milestone for SilverGuard AI: Securing a Global Banking Partnership

This week marked a significant step forward in expanding SilverGuard AI’s international presence. We successfully opened a commercial account with a globally recognized bank—a process far from straightforward due to rigorous scrutiny and compliance checks. The approval not only validates our business model but also signals confidence from a major financial institution, making this a moment worth celebrating.

Much of this achievement owes to Sonia, my business partner, whose meticulous attention to detail guided us through every stage of the application. From compiling extensive documentation to engaging in thorough discussions with bank representatives, she navigated the complexities with precision. Multiple rounds of paperwork and meetings were required to showcase our health tech vision, but her persistence ensured we cleared every hurdle.

Having a partner like Sonia, who combines diligence with a steadfast commitment to excellence, makes all the difference. Together, we’re poised to push our mission in AI-driven senior care further on the global stage.

  • Four Years Since Diving into CUHK’s Entrepreneurship Scene: Lessons That Stick and Paths Rediscovered

Four Years Since Diving into CUHK’s Entrepreneurship Scene: Lessons That Stick and Paths Rediscovered

Can’t believe it’s already been four years since our first foray into the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s entrepreneur day—time slips by in a flash, turning initial stumbles into solid strides. Back then, we wandered through sessions wide-eyed, soaking up talks from veterans without grasping much at all; the business landscape felt utterly foreign, like piecing together a puzzle in the dark. Fast forward, and those experiences have layered on practical insights into markets, strategies, and operations that now guide our daily decisions.

Top of my list for thanks goes to Sonia, my steadfast partner in this ride—we’ve tackled learning curves side by side, and now our medical technology initiative is gaining real traction. Let’s keep pushing; the momentum feels right. Among countless takeaways, one phrase from mentor EY resonates deepest: “堅持、應變” (persistence and adaptability). It boils down to holding firm through rough patches while tweaking approaches as circumstances shift—a mindset that’s proven essential in navigating uncertainties.

On a side note, university days had me convinced I’d mapped every inch of CUHK’s sprawling campus through endless walks. Returning as an alum, though, after real-world knocks, reveals fresh angles: untapped resources, hidden networks, and opportunities waiting in plain sight. It’s a reminder that growth often circles back to familiar ground with sharper eyes.

  • Reflecting on Winning CUHK’s CUSE Merit Award: Launching an Unexpected Startup Journey Four Years Later

Reflecting on Winning CUHK’s CUSE Merit Award: Launching an Unexpected Startup Journey Four Years Later

Hard to wrap my head around how swiftly time passes—it’s already been four years since Sonia and I claimed the Merit prize from the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Social Enterprise Fund (CUSE). Back then, we lacked any real grasp on commerce basics, yet that initiative unlocked our entry into the startup realm. Beyond the certificate itself, the true gem was crossing paths with EY, a standout CUHK alum and sharp mind in finance circles. He invested genuine effort and patience, guiding two novices like us through essential tactics for launching ventures.

What impresses me most about EY is his keen eye for details—whether orchestrating simple logistics like group seating or overseeing fund allocations on a grander scale. He thoughtfully assesses each participant’s requirements, customizing support and allocating tools to fit individual strengths and gaps.

You might find my outlook unconventional: in building our enterprise, I could tap into EY’s extensive contacts and expertise more aggressively. Oddly enough, I’ve come to view him as a cherished elder figure, and I’d rather not lean too heavily on direct aid. Instead, I envision him learning of our triumphs through word-of-mouth channels, feeling a quiet swell of pride in our independent strides.

Funnily, Sonia and I didn’t dive into the program aiming for entrepreneurial stardom. Our bond as partners fueled the decision—we’re always game for fresh pursuits together, from picking up scuba diving lately to other adventures. We approached the competition casually at first, more for the thrill than anything serious. Little did we know, absorbing wisdom from seasoned pros would reshape our understanding of company formation, turning it into our core focus today.

Destiny has a way of surprising you; chase something too forcefully, and it slips away, but when it’s meant to align, doors swing open effortlessly. My MBTI type as a Protagonist seems spot-on for steering teams and initiatives. These days, we’re channeling that drive into elevating SilverGuard AI further—watch this space for what’s ahead.
